Beat-Shot is a gameplay demo showcasing a unique mechanic developed for George Mason University’s Introduction to Game Design course. This project is
my personal take on a game mechanic that combines aspects of both rhythm-based and shooter games to create something new and engaging.
Players are rewarded for timing their shots to the beat of the music, gaining weapon-enhancing effects that grow stronger the longer they maintain a
beat combo. This demo features a variety of sample weapons, each of which evolves with rhythm-accurate play:
Players can also expend their accumulated beat combo gauge to unleash a powerful finisher. In this demo, this takes the form of a rocket whose explosion
size and damage scale strongly with the gauge level.
This easily adjustable mechanic could be applied to various shooter-based game formats, including 3D games. Try it for free below!
